Installing the Froli STAR system in our T@g

Through this winter, we have been looking for a solution to make the T@g bed more comfortable. We debated on options such as completely replacing the mattress, or getting a thicker pad on top of our current mattresses. After much debate, we ended up getting a Froli STAR sleep system.

While the Froli system wasn’t the cheapest option on the list, it definitely had some advantages. The first issue that we were having was that the bed in the T@g is not a standard size. Therefore, anything we would get would have to be cut to size (if we got memory foam), or custom ordered. The next issue were the storage compartments under the bed. The factory setup in the T@g is two mattresses, which allow the freedom to open the storage doors on either side. A single mattress may hinder that. Not to mention that a single large mattress may not fit through the trailer door. The final consideration was the height. We wanted to make sure that whatever we chose compromised the least amount of space possible. The Froli does take a little space, but with that, it also provides an advantage. It is the only solution that provides airflow under the mattresses, thus helping to reduce moisture in the trailer.

We purchased the queen bed set, which is basically just two of their single bed kits. Nickle Atlantic, the company that produces the Froli system, recommended that we also purchase an expansion kit, which would provide one more row of springs. The problem that we saw was that having an odd number of rows would put one row right on the hinge in the middle of the trailer. We found that the queen set worked great, and we actually ended up with a few leftover springs.

Installation of the Froli system was pretty simple. Probably the hardest part is planning how to space each row, so that they fit in the space. For our T@g (which is an XL), we had 3 rows of 10 springs at the foot of the bed. On each storage door, there were 5 rows wide, by 7 long. And, we had one row of 10 by the headboard.

As of now, we have spent two nights with the Froli. As time goes by, we will continue to update this page with our thoughts. From an initial impression, Tammy likes it. She is currently dealing with some back issues, but she had no issues the first two nights. For me, it was pretty good, but I was having an issue with my shoulders through the outside of my arms falling asleep if I laid on my back for too long. There are two rows of lighter springs in the shoulder area, so I am wondering if that was maybe the issue. The good thing about the Froli system is that it is customizable. I have since swapped a few of the lighter springs out with some of the leftover heavier ones, and we’ll see how that goes on the next trip.
