Stockton State Park | Stockton Lake - Missouri

There are times when life’s everyday tasks can begin to wear on a person. I think that dealing with COVID just magnifies the issue. Tammy and I had both reached that point toward the end of August 2020, and decided to take this trip to Stockton State Park as an opportunity to recharge.

While we had camped around Stockton Lake several times, we had never been to the State Park. Upon arriving at the park, we were surprised at the area that it covers. It seemed like we drove quite a way through the park before we made it to the campground. There is an east and west loop in the campground, and we were in site #24 in the west loop.

Tammy did a good job of picking our site, especially since we had never been there. The site was tucked back in the corner of the campground, and provided quite a bit of space. We were initially disappointed that the sites weren’t near the water. However, we soon discovered the best feature of this site… there was a trail that went from the back of the site, down to the lake.

This state park offered a little bit for everyone. There were cabins, as well as duplex type lodging that could be rented. There was also a marina with a restaurant. Other activities included a large trail system, and a water trail for paddlers.

We enjoyed our stay at Stockton State Park. The weekend was pretty mellow, aside from one unique “feature”. At night, the campground would be visited by armadillos. And, they were not overly concerned about the campers. We got our entertainment on Saturday night by sitting up and watching people chase the armadillos out of their campsites.
