Rail Explorers: Fun Adventure in Boone, IA
Prior to late last year, we had never heard of Rail Explorers. Our friends Dan and Becky came to us with the idea to go to Iowa for a weekend to check out the location in Boone. We really didn’t know what to expect, but it sounded like fun, so we were in.
When the weekend finally came, we were a little concerned with the weather as we had a storm roll through overnight and into the morning of our reservation. However, it moved out just in time and kept the weather cool for our trip. The Rail Explorers experience ended up being one that we greatly enjoyed. I just wanted to take a quick moment to share some of our photos, and to give you some quick info in case you wanted to experience it for yourself.
Here is a quick list to cover our FAQ’s:
Cost - A tandem car (2 person) starts at $99, and a quad car (4 person) starts at $160
Availability - Be sure to book well in advance as these tours fill up quickly
Length - The Boone, IA tours are approximately 12 miles and take about 2 hours
Restrooms - There are no restrooms on the tour, so be sure to go before you leave (and limit your coffee intake 😁)
Physical effort - The rail cars require very little physical effort. If you are looking for a workout, this is probably not it. As long as the pedals are moving, the motor propels the car down the rails.
